The Week in Squares–Nantucket, MA

I just returned from a vacation to a place I hold dear…Nantucket.  It was foggy.  And then it was foggy some more.  Then it was so foggy that they canceled the Fourth of July fireworks. But fog can be romantic, right?  And they’ll always be fireworks next year.  We did eventually get two glorious days in the sun, and still fit in some activities that were the essence of summer: eating s’mores, picking strawberries, collecting shells, cutting hydrangeas, cruising with the top down, taking outdoor showers, diving into icy waves, and eating dessert.  Lots of dessert.

Here are some iPhone snaps from the week. Happy Summer!!!

Happy 4th–Nantucket, MA

Happy 4th from foggy Nantucket. Here’s a shot from last year…what a difference a year makes!  I’m so grateful for the freedom that we experience every day and even more thankful to the heroes who sacrifice everything to make that possible.

Six–Nantucket, MA

This morning I crossed a cobblestone street and walked through the graceful pointed arch doorway at St. Mary’s Church.  It was the same arch that I passed under in my wedding dress six years ago today. Unlike the brilliant sunny day that we were graced with then, today was foggy and cool. It’s hard to believe that so much has happened (I held the hand of my toddler as we walked into church today) in just six years–a new city, new jobs, and a new addition to our family.  This morning I was reminded why I love the power of a building, of a specific place, and of course; of photographs, as they help us travel back in time and provide an anchor for our memories. They can also draw a quick smile–the facial expressions of our wedding party in the bottom photo just make me laugh out loud every time I see it!

Happy six to my hubby…I’m  looking forward to many more adventures in the next six+ years too!  XO

Was this really in 2007!!! I can’t believe it! Such a great treat to see your wedding day again! Cheers to many more years!

Fine Art Friday–On the Road to Summer–Montana

You may remember how much I love photographing pathways and roads.  The time has arrived when many of us hit the road (or in my case, wait for a delayed flight out of JFK this morning) to celebrate the tastes and sights of summer–beautiful vistas, gooey s’mores, shimmery beaches, and the flash of fireflies.  I could live all year for the glow of that never-ending twilight that only exists at this time of year.  Happy trails to you all–no matter where your summer road takes you.

Happy Friday!! Here is one of my all-time favorite roads ever…and it’s only open in summer.

Going to the Sun Road, Glacier National Park, Montana (the greatest place on earth).

Meghan and Michael–Boston, MA

Everybody knows that I heart Boston.  And I heart my clients, Meghan and Mike (who also really really love each other).  So put that all together with a glorious spring day, mix in a fun wedding party, and you get a spectacular wedding.  The first time I spoke with Meghan on the phone, I felt like we instantly connected, and I was so honored that they chose me to record their big day.

Meghan and Mike live right in the heart of Boston, and their wedding reflected their love of the city.  After their joyful first look, we kicked off the wedding party photos at the gorgeous Public Garden, where tulips bloomed and trees were finally starting to bud.  We also set up on and around the bridge where the happy couple got engaged, and a few swan boats passed under the bridge as we took photos.  Though it was crowded, the wedding party got lots of Bostonian love as people shouted “Congrats!  Love your dress! You look gorgeous!” and took out their iPhones to snap the scene of 14 attendants and the happy couple.

We proceeded to their stunning church in the South End, where the organist memorably played “Here Comes the Bride” twice (causing lots of smiles), and after a beautiful ceremony, everyone boarded Boston Super Duck Tour buses to head to the reception. The Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center is right on the water with amazing views of downtown Boston, and provided some wonderful backdrops for our photos.  From the hilarious entrances of each bridesmaid/groomsman combo to the meaningful toasts and the non-stop dancing into the night, their reception exuded love, fun, and the importance of friends and family.

Meghan and Mike, you were so relaxed and fun throughout the day; it was a joy to work with you.  I hope Hawaii was fantastic and I’d love to see you soon!
