Fine Art Friday–Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day “celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers.”  In other words, take a little time to yourself.  Maybe these images aren’t really Fine Art caliber, but if they could talk, they’d say “I hope the only laboring you do this weekend involves drinking a frosty beverage at sunset, raising your fishing pole, or exploring off the beaten path.”  Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Cortney and George–Spring Lake, NJ

Two weekends ago I had the pleasure of attending a family wedding at the Jersey shore.  Though I demanded the aisle seat so I could take “some” photos, I tried to let the hired photographers do their thing.  In a measure to control myself, I limited my bag to one camera body, 2 short lenses, and NO flash (so once the reception started, I would put down my camera, right?  Well, maybe).  Hence, many of these were from my church pew or dinner table, but I thought I’d share some of the beautiful details.  Cortney is one of those people whose smile lights up of a room–and her wedding day only amplified this.  George can be a little more reserved but was beaming the entire day.  Bottom line–they met in middle school (!!) and remain completely adorable together.

The bold colors–oranges, pinks, and greens–reflected Cortney’s vivacious personality, while the bridesmaid’s navy blue dresses and nautical details were a great nod to our seaside locale.  The bride and groom both come from large, fun families (major plus in my book), so the dance floor was packed before the salads were served and remained hopping all night (also the sign of a good band). They ended the evening with cupcakes and…wait for it…a chocolate dipping bar.  Yup, melted chocolate with Oreos, pretzels, marshmallows, and strawberries to dip to your hearts content. What a great idea and a very sweet way to end the evening (pun intended).  Congrats C and G!

Brooke+Matt+2 years–Sundance, Utah

Sometimes my friends get married in extraordinary places.  Of course, I bring my camera.  And sometimes I take two years to edit and share their photos.  Don’t worry, I’m MUCH more timely with my clients :).  So it’s fitting that today is the 2 year anniversary of our good friends, Matt and Brooke.  They’ve been busy since their wedding, first welcoming a baby boy (who I loved photographing last December), and then moving across the country.

Their wedding took place in Brooke’s native Utah at the amazing Sundance Resort.  The days leading up the wedding were filled with successful fly fishing, dangerous mountain biking, relaxing spa treatments, and even country line dancing at the rehearsal dinner to a band that had driven from Matt’s homeland, Texas.  I’d go back tomorrow if I could.  As you will see below, the mountain chic wedding details were gorgeous, as were the bride and groom.  Happy anniversary guys…better late than never!

Good Golly–Watch Hill, RI

Miss Molly!  Here is another fun beach shoot we did to jazz up a rainy day–emphasis on “shoot”, as Molly is quite the model and doesn’t mind having her photo taken.  I love the timeless quality of her polka dot bathing suit converted into black and white–like a 1920’s ruffled bathing beauty.  And don’t get me started on those eyes or her sassy hands-on-hip pose!  Then her cousins got in on the action, hamming it up big time.  Whatever it takes to entertain four kids on a rainy day at the beach is A-OK! Happy Sunday!

Fine Art Friday–End of Season–Madison, CT

Ok, so we aren’t quite ready to pull boats out of the water for the season, but it’s just around the corner (or last year at this time, Hurricane Irene was just around the corner).  I shot this image in early fall, but it reminds me of what’s to come in the next few weeks as we say farewell to beach days until next May.  So get out there and enjoy this end of the summer (hurricane-free) weekend…Happy Friday!
